Knowledge?

We live in a world of knowledge.  Sometimes the knowledge is good and sometimes it isn’t.  What do I mean my that?  Science is constantly coming out with new studies and changes.  Years ago they was the one about eggs.  Most of us grew up eating raw eggs in one form or another. I even remember it was used as a health thing at one time.  Eating a raw egg in a smoothie was considered a good thing.

My post really isn’t about eggs and health, but more about knowledge and what we do with it.  Even now there are positive things about coconut oil and even recent things studies which show negative impacts.  What do we do with that knowledge and how do we test it out?    I think you have to study it out and think about it.  I would also add prayer.  Pray for help to understand and know what is true.   God is the only one who knows what is true and what is not.  But we can pray for that inspiration to know what is true and what will work.

In my last post I talked about plumbing issues.  This is a continuation of it.   So in all that I ended up doing last week; I finally found through prayer, lots of Youtube videos that I needed an agar.

The inspiration of the agar was the most helpful thing.  I had taken the drain out and watched the video on how to do that.  I had even watched one where a professional plumber said he had watched many videos and they do it wrong.  And you know what.  He is right.  I am not a plumber, but I tried all the different ideas.  The video with taking the drain out didn’t even work and when I snaked the tub I got the most hair out of the overflow.  I also got past the trap with the agar (snake 20 feet in length and got more out.  If you snake the drain it will come up to the overflow.  So really snaking the the overflow is the best way.

But how did I gain all this knowledge?  It was through trial and error and prayer to know the best way to do it.  I now have to put the drain back in, but I am having some issues with it as it isn’t going in strait.  So in a few days I have someone coming to check it out and help me finish it up.

I hope you all have a splendid week!

The joys of plumbing.

I was forming a post in my mind and realized I had already used that title.  Ha things have really been crazy lately.  As I said before, it doesn’t stop.  I have had a break from school for 5 weeks.  This is my last week and it has been wonderful, but there has been a lot going on.  I have been dejunking my house and making many trips to the DI- it’s a second-hand store that takes used items.

There have been some good things and some not so great things. And of course lots of cleaning.  There are still issues that come up.  Right now I have a plumbing issue.  A few weeks ago my shower head broke and sprayed all over the bathroom.  I was not happy.  I was in such a grumpy mood by the time I got to work.  But really it was a blessing in many ways.

First I had to buy a new shower head.  The store closest to me is Lowes and I only found one brand with many different prices, single head, double head, 3 functions, 5 functions.  So many choices, but what price did I want to pay?  I ended up with the $40 range 3 function head.  Once it was installed, I realized it was so nice and that I had put up with a shower head that didn’t work for a long time.  I hadn’t gotten a lot of water out of it for awhile and with the new head, it was fabulous!  I have to say it is really awesome and I love it.

All was going well and then one day out of the blue, I had a tub of water while taking a shower.  I didn’t have a clue that it had been draining slow at all, so I decided to fix it.  I talked with some people and one suggested to start with hot boiling water.  So I tried that.  I heard some sizzling and it didn’t release the clog, so I remembered the last time the plumber came, he removed the plate on the side of the tub.  At that point, I decided to watch some videos on Youtube to see if I could do this basic job.  (Some jobs, I don’t even want to attempt, but hey if I can do it and save me some money, then why not try?)

So I found a nice video online and learned about a zip it-.  Its a long plastic stick that is flexible with a hole at the top and edges that cling to gunk in you drain and help you pull it up.  I checked Lowes one day and they didn’t have it, but I bought this cheaper looking thing that had two of them and a thin plastic stick with a hook.  It’s kind of the same, but quite wimpy!  There was two of them so I thought I’d try it.  The first chance it get to use it, and the hook tears.  Great!  I don’t want to lose it down the drain so I have to use the other one.

This one holds up a little better, but I still haven’t gotten a lot off.  So I go back to another Youtube video and found one with a woman taking out the drain of the tub.  She uses a drain remover.  Since I need another zip it and I am now looking for a drain remover, I  head to Home depot.  I do not like to go to some of these stores on Saturday.  They are extremely busy, but I had a small pocket of time before the next event, so I didn’t want to waste it.

So I drive up to Home Depot and I am calling them at the same time to see if they have the zip it product and they don’t.  But I did find another product really similar to it.  The brand was Python drain tool.  This one didn’t have a hole at the end, but some genius realized we wouldn’t want to touch the gunk in our shower drain and rigged it with a bag and a small part to twist into the drain.  It was the thicker plastic and had the grooves in the side to pull out the gunk and hair from your drain.  With the drain pop up plug on, it was really difficult to get the gunk out, so I watched another video and found out how to remove the popup drain.  Then I tried the python and I got more stuff, but not enough to cause a clogged drain.  So of course, I had to take the drain out.  But Home Depot didn’t have it.

I was kind of getting frustrated with all this running to the store bit while I was trying to do a project.   Hence the name of my company Errand. Girl- let me do the run around for you.  This is so that you don’t have to do the running around.

Okay back to my running around, so I went home and did as much as I could and then put everything back, since I would need to use the shower again the following day and I didn’t want anything else rolling down the drain to clog it.

So that was Saturday and the next day I could do anything was Monday and I ran to Lowe’s again to see if they had the drain remover.  They did and I was able to remove the drain.  It was really hard, but with some praying and some help from a screw driver it untwisted and came out, but of course there was another problem.  Nothing is ever easy and this was no exception.  The shower drain washer was not there.  Whoever had put it in had used a putty and it crumbled, so I cleaned that out and then of course I needed to go to the store again which I didn’t do until this morning before work.

As I continued to work on it, talking to it, I took off the side plate and put a clothes hanger down it and then the python again and got a ton more junk out, but still not enough for it to clog.  I then got a phone call and had a conversation with a friend of mine about what to put down the drain.  So I tried that too.  Hot vinegar.  It didn’t do much either except smell up the bathroom.  I was really tired and my back was killing me so I stopped and looked up what disintegrates hair.

Google has all kinds of information about it.  Apparently bleach will disintegrate hair, I just don’t know how good it is on the pipes, but I may try it.  We will see.  Through all this, I have learned a lot.  1. how to waste a lot of time. 2. Just call the plumber, it will be easier and 3. knowledge is power.

Ok I think it really comes down to, trying new things.  If I can’t do it, then I should call the plumber, but I did try.  Unfortunately, I just don’t have the time to take care of it, so it really would be easier to call the plumber.  I hope you have have a wonderful week!

Helping others by fulfilling your dreams.

Well here’s to a post that was almost done and I sometimes hit a key where it highlights and deletes everything.  Well that happened tonight after I  had spent over an hour writing.  So let’s see if I can do a quick refresher and get it all done as quick as possible.

Here are some questions that I was told I needed to answer in my post this week.

  • Based on what you read in the first two pages (pages 3 and 4), why are virtue and integrity so vital to an economy?  Virture and integrity are important in any business, because many people feel that corporations are not taking care of those that work for them.  So a company with Virtue and integrity is one that is honest and true.  They will do their best for you without cutting corners.
  • According to Charles Handy, what is the “real justification” for the existence of businesses?  The real justification of a company is not just for a profit, it is to do more with the profit.  More to help others and serve them.
  • What are two solutions proposed by Handy that you agree with? Why?  The first solution is that while it is important to eat to live, if we lived to eat we would all have problems.   Eating to live makes it apart of who we are, but not the main focus of our lives- so serving others and having a business that serves it beneficial in that it is not the only reason we are in business.

Another reason is that many people assume that a company is simply in business to make money, but the reasons are much deeper in that they can accomplish and help so much more when we come together as a group.  So giving to others, helps others.  At times we can only do so much.

There is a connection in serving others.  It is a simply opportunity that we have that we must serve an help others.  In Elder Hollands’ talk, ” Are we all not beggars?”  we learn from the Book of Mormon how important it is to serve others.  Elder Holland reminds us that at times we are beggars too.  Especially when we plead to our Heavenly Father for forgiveness for the sins we have committed and then we too are beggars.   There are many beggars that we can see are in obvious need and while we sin, those needs are not always obvious, but we too need the help.   Elder Holland refers to the Book of Mormon when he talks of King Benjamin stating. Little wonder that King Benjamin says we obtain a remission of our sins by pleading to God, who compassionately responds, but we retain a remission of our sins by compassionately responding to the poor who plead to us.”

Are we doing our part?  In the same talk Elder Holland states that Jesus said of Mary “she has done what she could.”  We need to help others and doing do in our business is important.    One of the videos we watched was about a woman who wanted to help others, she started out her life in a non profit organization  and eventually ended up at Facebook.  While that sounds like she didn’t want to help, she explains that the mission of Facebook was to share information with friends.  Facebook is a media, where people share stories or information about themselves with their friends.  It is a connection to make things more readily available.  For those whose family is far away it is also a connection to see what is going on in their lives.  After all connections are very important to us.  Life is about the connections we make and how we can better serve and help them.

Another video was called Entrepreneurship and Consecration.  What is important in our businesses is manly that we take opportunities to help others even if it is a very small part.  We do what we can and it in turn blesses us in all that we do.

In another video Larry Brillant spoke of a new breed of entrepreneurs and that all it takes is one person with a great idea.  An example is Google and in making information that was once only for certain people more accessible to others.  For example in another class that I am taking about natural disasters, we haven’t always known about them, but they have always happened and the reason we know more about them is the information we see daily on the internet. So making information available is a service to so many.

So everything seems to relate to serving others and that is the deeper purpose in all we do.  We must take every opportunity to serve those around us. Our businesses are not about statistics or making money.  Mother Teresa once said to a reporter who told her statistically she wasn’t making a different,  “My work is about love, not statistical”  in essence we are serving God as we to the “all wee can do” to serve others.

In all that I read this week, I found that we do our best or “all that I could”  While I could accomplish much more with a lot of people, sometimes it is important that one person cares.  I have seen that in my life too.  Just to know that one person cares is important to me.  It says to me, ” I am important to you.”  I think that serving those around us teach us so much.  We all need help and we can’t do it alone.

Paying it forward….

The other day we had a discussion about service and at the end one of the discussion, a lady shared about paying it forward.  Well I started to think about this.  Often when we think about paying it forward, its a positive thing.  Someone buys us lunch or does a little act of service for us.  That makes us feel good and we do the same therefore paying it forward.

But what about negative acts?  We have all heard the analogy that dad has a bad day at work, he comes home and takes it out on his wife, who in turn takes it out on the kids and the kids take it out on the dog.    What has got my mind to thinking about negative acts?

Well I was driving today and needed to get across two lanes.  I was able to get into the first lane, but when I went into the second, there was a car that honked.  Was it a short honk to say hey, I’m here, don’t come  over.  Oh no!  It was a long honk…………………..  That lasted way beyond what it needed to be.  Usually things like that make me feel bad and have a lasting effect on me, but today I started thinking about paying it forward.   So in the negative aspect of paying it forward the next time anyone does anything wrong, I should pay it forward with a long honk to let them know that not only are they in the wrong, but I have to make them feel bad about being human in the first place.   Fortunately, that is not me.  I have never been honk happy.   I do dumb things all the time and I am my own worst enemy about getting over it.   The one thing I did today that changed my attitude was remind myself who I am.   I am not perfect and I make mistakes, and that as I make mistakes I will continue to try and do better.

While there are good things and bad things in life, “continuing to move forward” and do the best we can is what is important.   We shouldn’t get so caught up on the things we do that we aren’t perfect in life.  Hey we are human and we aren’t perfect, but we can certainly try to do the best we can in all that we do.

There are enough things in life that push us down and make us feel bad, but doing all we can to move forward is the better option.  What are things that you do that help you move forward?  For me I keep inspirational quotes on my refrigerator.  And whenever I need a pick me up, I know where to look.  I also have some that I have memorized, that help me when I need that continued push.

I hope you all have a good day and do pay it forward, not only does it help the person you are helping, but it helps you.

This week in our readings we are learning there are always going to be questions to ask between what is most important family or business?  We read mini case studies based on a decision between our family or our business.  I have had some experience with that and the other day I was watching a video on Facebook before I read any of my lessons that reminded me of the importance of our family over our business.  The reason we are working is for our family and they need to have time with us as well.  So, my answer to that is that family comes first.  They are the jewel in our lives and what means the most to us.  Depending on your values in life depends on where you would answer this question.

We read several articles and there were many things that I pulled from each of them as being important in my life.  Here is some from Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness from the Acton Foundation for Entrepreneur excellence,  “Religious people are more resilient and more effective at fighting depression”

Another thought was “the first step in your hero journey is one step in front of the other”.  Any  path we choose takes action.  So in any way be go we have to work at it.  Every goal has merit if we work at it.  Another talk was Called the Formula for Success by Thomas S. Monson where he talks about being successful and fives us 3 rules to be successful.  1. Fill your mind with truth. 2. live a life of service. 3. fill your heart with love.  These three rules will help us be successful in our lives.

There were many other things we read and listened to and they all relate to us in some way.  In The formula for success, I know that I need to read, ponder and study truth.  I love this time I have during each day to reflect, study and learn.  I also write in my journal at this time.  It is part of that reflection that I enjoy and also the peace that comes from reading and studying the scriptures. I use this every day as a way that brings me peace.  I typically like to do this in the morning, but I also like to exercise in the morning, so sometimes my spiritual study gets pushed off to later in the day.  But I never want to miss it because it does bring me peace.

Another topic we read about it Money.  How do we all feel about money?  It seems to be the means to an end.  We have to have it to live and survive in this world.  But does it make us happy?  That depends.  It can bring happiness and it can also bring sorrow.  There are also filters about how we view many subjects in life. Some come from our parents view and others develop as we go to school and learn to think for ourselves.    So in answer to the questions….

  • What is your attitude toward money?  Well I think that we need it in this life and at times it has been very important to me.  I think that as we look at having it to pay bills or getting what we want our of life we have to have it.  But there have been times I have really struggled with it.  I think there is a balance that we need to have.  I don’t need to roll in money to be happy.  I doesn’t necessarily buy my happiness.  I do think it is important to have, but I also think I have a stewardship over how I spend it.
  • How can your view of money affect the way you live?  I could have thousands of dollars, but I would still be frugal.  But not to the point which I am going without something if I need it.  Some of my wants are only wants for a moment.  I have bought things in the past that only made me happy short term.  But because I spend the money on it, I felt that I needed to keep it.  There are many times I go to the store and really want something, but will walk out of the store without it.  I would rather have some for my future and so preparing now for what I need later is important to me.  I don’t have to have the most expensive thing, nor do I need to buy the one that will only last a second.  If I need it, I want it to last longer than a minute or two.  Buying something I will use is important.  I don’t buy just to buy.  I have to have a purpose in which I will use it.
  • What rules are recommended for prospering?  The rules for prospering is giving back.  We are told in the scriptures to help the needy and not turn them away.  Giving to charities or helping others is a way of prospering.  A few years ago, I had very little money.  I learned something that taught me a valuable lesson.  It had to do with giving back and sharing with those who needed it.  I had taken some missionaries to the store and one of them found that her account had been hacked and she didn’t have any money.   While I didn’t have money, I did  have family close by and could ask them for some if I really needed it.  I also had a job (Errand.Girl) where I could work and get more money.  So I gave the last bit of cash I had to these missionaries.  What I found was a blessing, that when I gave of my money I was blessed with a job.  I think it is another one of the blessings that Heavenly Father has for us.  It is hard to give(sacrifice) but when we do, regardless of how that person uses the money, we are blessed in ways we would never have known.

I don’t know if we can answer the question in the title at all, but I do know that my family is important and I do know there is a higher power.  I also know there are dreams that we want to fulfill in life and we have to work at all of them.  But when we do, we are blessed with so many blessings both spiritual and temporal.

What I am learning?

This week I read some talks that I have read before and to like the messages they portray.  Each week is different in the topics that we relate to and what they really mean.  One of my favorites is talk by Elder Bednar called A Disciple Learning center.  In this talk he is talking about the MTC.  The MTC stands for Missionary Training Center and that it is a place of learning.  He talks about the 17 training centers around the world and compares them to BYU- Idaho.  I really enjoyed this talk the first time about 4 years ago.  What I like about it is that BYU- Idaho is an intense training for a short time, there is a temple next to it.  There are standards that we as students must live by and we are expected to honor them.  I feel it is a higher standard that we must live up to, but it is also what helps us continue to grow.  I think as I incorporate it into my business, it is the way I conduct business.  I follow what I am learning and try to live by a higher standard in all I do.  I also try to do the best I can and give the time and attention to my clients that they need.

Message to Garcia is a training on being a good employee and finding the best person to take care of the jobs.  These are people who have the courage to make a difference.   There are several steps, but what impressed me the most was being the kind of person who always got things done. That’s the kind of business I want.  I want to help where I am needed.  Give detailed information where I need to and if I can’t help them, refer them to someone who can.

In Leadership with a small L by Kim B. Clark – One of the things that impressed me was to be the chief, but to also be the servant.  He was referring to Jesus Christ and how he as the greatest of all men on earth, but did not act like he was.  He lead by example, with vision and with love.  That is the kind of business owner we need to be.  As we love our clients we do the best we can for them.

Good to great was another business excerpt I read this week and there are 6 key concepts  3 are for the build up and three for the breakthrough.  It takes time to build anything up and we have to keep working at it.   Three elements were also shared about people.  1.  Disciplined People- getting the right people and keeping them. 2. Disciplined Thoughts- be brutally honest about the facts and avoid the temptation of getting side tracked.  3 Disciplined Action- what is important to achieve and what isn’t.  I liked those three concepts because they are actions.  We find the best people in our businesses to get things done, stay focused and move forward to accomplish all that we need to.  I think that is the way it is in life.  I have to move forward, not just in business but my personal life as well.  There are many things that I push for and try to achieve.  I am working on changing, growing and moving forward.  Those are my goals and they all work together with learning and doing all that I can to improve.

Perfection is a long road of trial and error

I found a couple of quotes on Facebook which I have listed below.  I love the positive message they teach me which helps me learn and grow. As I mentioned before in one of my blog posts, I enjoy writing and there are times that I am just dying to write and can’t wait to get it all down as I express my thoughts.  This mention of writing has a lot to do with these quotes and the post below.

President Russell M. Nelson  “Perfection comes not in this life, but in the next life. Don’t demand things that are unreasonable. But demand of yourself improvement. As you let the Lord help you through that, He will make the difference.

That which we persist in doing becomes easy to do, not that the nature of the thing has changed, but our power to do so has increased. Heber J Grant.

My thoughts pertaining to perfection are that I will never be perfect in this life, but I have goals and dreams I want to accomplish and I have to work at them little by little.  Every time I look at a big project, I wonder how I will ever get it done.  My brother often reminds me  you don’t have to eat the elephant all at once, just “one bite at a time”.  This is true.  I have to say, I have never accomplished something the first time around.  It takes practice and patience.

As I look back as some of the things I have accomplished and have yet to accomplish, I see lots of growth.  As a college student, I am doing better in school than I ever did.  I have a desire to be there, and I am learning, growing and improving in the things I do.  I also look at life and some of my other desires.  I mentioned “writing” a couple of paragraphs back which is also one of them.  I used to pour out my thoughts in my journals while listening to music and then I stopped.  I wanted to write, but the classes I took, told me I was a terrible writer.  So I quit for a long time.  Years later, with some positive thoughts of doing and accomplishing, I took another writing class.  What I learned is that many are born with certain talents, but most of us have to work at it.  As we work at it,  often times we enjoy it much longer than those who do not have to work at it.

From then on, my goal was to continue writing.  So I do.  One of the places that I write often is a journal where I write what is important to me.   I went to a fireside- its a meeting  where  people go to hear a message (like a Ted Talk). So a few years ago I went to this meeting and the  woman who spoke made quite an impression on me, she talked about PJ’S- Prayer, Journal and Scripture study.  It has made a difference in my life as I pray,  write , read and study my scriptures.

In this road of perfection, often we get discouraged and want to quit.  I have been there more than once.   One of the ways I do this  is by prayer, scripture study and trying to do the best I can and when I involve God in all that I do, things go better in my life.  I make it through the week with his help.

Just a word of advice; not everyone is going to like your writing style, but that doesn’t mean you are doing it wrong.  Learn the rules and then go, write, do and become better at something you always dreamed of doing.  Not just in writing, but in anything you do.  I see the progress I have made in so much and I am pleased, but I know there is much more I can do.  So I will keep working at it everyday.

Life is not easy and we deal with so much that is really hard, but we aren’t the only ones suffer and deal with hard things.   Jesus Christ suffered so much more than we do and it wasn’t even his problems or sins, it was ours!  He did it to save us and give us a way back to Him.

So on your path to perfection, one last thought from Elder Jeffrey R Holland.  “Don’t you quit. You keep walking. You keep trying. There is help and happiness ahead. Some blessings come soon, some come late, and some don’t come until heaven; but for those who embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ, they come. It will be all right in the end. Trust God and believe in good things to come.”

To thine own self be true….

To thine own self be true.  This is a quote by William Shakespeare, but it is written in a talk by President Gordon B. Hinckley in a message to young women called” Stand true and faithful”  I really liked this talk because at the mention of “to thine own self be true” it reminded me of a time when I went on a trip out of the country with a friend.    This friend and I shared a lot of things, but not our values.  I felt my times that I had to stand of for who I was and it really wasn’t easy.  I found a magnet that said these very words and I bought it.  It was the one thing that meant the most to me out of everything I bought on vacation.  Simply because, I had stood up for myself many times.   President Hinckley reminds us to be honest and have integrity and to get a good education.  He says that at this time in our lives “women have never had as many opportunities as we do now. ” We never know if we will need that education or what our lives will become without it and it is a good thing to fall back on if we need it.

We also read a section from Steven R. Covey’s 7 habits of Highly effective people.  He reminds us that being effective people get things done and they are proactive. Each step has mini steps beneath us to compliment those steps.  The seven habits are: 1. Be proactive, 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. First things first 4. Think win win 5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood 6. Synergize 7. Sharpen the saw .  All of these steps can be used in our lives and in our businesses.

One of the most meaningful steps  I found had to do with Step 3 – First things first because it is how we deal everyday with our spouses, our friends, our family and our customers.  Steven Covey refers to this as an emotional bank account of interdependence and  says “if we are out of money things can be very tense.”  I like what he says about each of these steps that lead us to victories in life.  They teach us how important it is to be kind and to treat others as we would like to be treated.  In fact his supporting idea to this victory is “The most important ingredient we can contribute to any relationship is not what we say or do, but what we are”  I really like that because we have to be true to ourselves.  We can’t be fake or people will know it.  It all comes back to President Hinckley’s talk on Stand True.    Who we are comes from our very core and we show that do others in how we treat them.

In watching a video by Guy Kawasaki – he talked about being a college student and how it was one of the best times and  he said he “should have taken light loads and lived on his parents as long as possible”.  What he meant was that often we are so ready to get out there and be the adult we push ourselves so hard to get out an make  money and “it isn’t all that it is cracked up to be.”  With it comes lots of responsibility and as he looks back now, he wishes that all he had to think about was his midterms or what schools to go to.

What I learn from Guy Kawasaki is he is right.  “Money isn’t all that it is cracked up to be”  It is a lot of responsibilities and as a college student now,  my life is full of lots of responsibility.   I don’t rely on my parents to pay by schooling and my classes are not the only thing I have to worry about.  I have a home, a job and a business  and family and friends with many hats that I exchange in all that I do.  Life is busy for all of us.  If you are young and only have schooling to worry about.  Enjoy it and don’t wish your life away so soon because adulthood comes fast enough with all we have to worry and deal with.

What do you know about me?

What do you know about me?   Do you know that I have words that want to be spoken?  Do you know that I have thoughts that bubble and desire to be written?  There are times when those thoughts cannot be denied and I cannot wait to get them down on as soon as possible.  Sometimes it takes hours and other times only a few minutes to get them all down.

Do you know I have a voice that wants to be heard?  I think there are many things that we don’t know about others.  We may have grown up together or hang out often together, but do we really see and know all there is about them?  I have siblings and I can honestly say, I don’t know everything thing about their lives.  I even marvel at some of the things they have experienced and how it has affected them, by making them who they are today.  Their strength comes from the things they have experienced.

I see those experiences in my own life too and how they have taught me so much and given me so much growth.  That growth, helps me work at who I want to be and what I desire to be.   Those who know me personally know the kinds of things I share regularly on Facebook on my personal site.  There are things that inspire and help me to think positively.  They are things like quotes and recipes and inspiration thoughts.

I have alluded to it a few times here on this page about faith and Divine Guidance in my life.  Let’s face it, it is so much a part of my life and there will be moments that I will share about that faith.  It is who I am and I need it so much in my life.

Do you know I have a testimony of Jesus Christ?  I know He lives and I know He loves me.  I know and experience His love for me daily.  I am not perfect, nor will I ever be.  But knowing that helps me turn to the only perfect one who has walked this earth.

This page is about things I learn and about who I am and who I am becoming. I may be sharing funny things or heartfelt things or even things that I just want to write about in my life.  I am not always witty, but those that know me very well find my humor when others do not.  You see, it has taken me awhile to find my voice, but one of the things that has made so much difference is knowing I am loved.  So I share this with you today to really think about who we are and what we have to offer to others.  We have so much to share with others.

Life’s little errands…

There is always so much going on in all of our lives.  Errands.  We all have them.  Issues with our homes, our lives, family etc.  Well I’m no exception to all that.  I always have things I need to get taken care of and I’m sure you do too.

So far — here it is June and life has been really hard this year.  I am constantly pushing myself to be better and have come across many trials, but I have to say there have been blessings to those as well.  Life is hard, but those hardships really help us grow.  This is not something we all like to admit.

Last month, I felt like I was drowning with family issues, school and completing a program  at an elementary school where I also work.  Lets face it, life is busy.  I know I am not the only one who has a busy life.  Someone I know is always telling me ” my time is as valuable as yours”.  The thing this person doesn’t realize it I know how busy my life is, so I am assuming their life is just as busy.  Those three weeks where I felt like I was drowning and yet I still managed to get everything done; I know that wasn’t me.  I know there was divine guidance helping me along the way.  I felt it.  And I know we are watched over and cared for.  And I am so grateful for it.

So last week I posted about a couple of books I read for my class.  Well yesterday I read another book.  It was so good that I have to share.  A friend lent it to me and I picked it up after church and read until I finished it.  I even ordered me a copy today.  I want to underline in it and mark my favorite passages and the things it taught me.  I love books that teach truth.  And what I felt when I read this book is hard to put into words, but it made me happy and I wanted to share.

The book is called The Message by Lance Richardson.  He had a death experience and came back and shared his experiences with us.  One of the things he shared about is serving and helping others.  I really think that is what life is all about.  How can we help people?  There are lots of things we have been taught to do like taking dinner to someone, helping them with yard work etc.  Even smiling at someone is a service.  What are things that you can do to help and serve others?

There are lots of services that we have to pay for.  We pay to use the service of companies that help us.  It is part of life and we need those services.  We recognize how valuable those services become to us when we need them.  For example, cell phone service.  Can you even imagine not having a phone?  What would we do with out them?  There are so many things on our phones that have been replaced by just that phone and the service it offers us.  Years ago, we had to pack a camera, a day planner, a phone, a radio, an alarm clock, a flash light, a calculator, a notepad, a checkbook, money, drivers license etc.

Wow! if I carried all those things, I’d need a suitcase and not my little purse.  But we did it and look how much more simple it is now without all those things.  About 10 years ago, I bought a really nice camera for a vacation I was going on. I know I used it for a couple of years, just replacing the memory disk after each vacation.  I still have it, but  I don’t use it and I wonder when I quit using it?  I  usually use the camera on my phone,  Its just easier and I don’t have to pack so much around.   OK so I got off there just a little bit.  My point is that we need services and there are values in them.

So what kinds of services can we offer to people to help them that really come from our heart?  What extra things do you do?  I know that sharing some of these things makes us feel like we are patting ourselves on our backs, but I think it is important to acknowledge the good we do to help others.  Even in you just share them with your families.  You are doing something that helps others and bringing joy to someone’s life.
